Half Term Swimming

ALL training sessions will run as normal during half term.

Club Sponsorship

Swimming Club has received a donation from Welton, Bibby and Baron and we are very grateful for their contribution. Thanks also to the parent who left a message at the desk suggesting that we contact that company. Pledges for trophies have been made by All Tree Services and by Shooting Stars Netball, so many thanks to those parents too.

The cups and trophies looked brilliant at the Presentation Evening but some of them are very old and damaged. Sponsors include the National Coal Board, which gives an indication of their age! Several of them carry inscriptions that do not relate to the events for which they are now awarded.

If you’d like to help sponsor a replacement cup, or you work for a company who you think might be willing to sponsor, please leave a message at the desk and we’ll give you further details.

Club Information

Swimming Club has several noticeboards at the Sports Centre. The one in Reception displays photos and press cuttings. The boards in the spectator area at the shallow end are where important information for members is shown. That is where notices appear keeping club members up to date. All the results from Galas, Team Events, and Times Evenings are always pinned up in that area.

Times Evening Results

Well done to the swimmers who worked hard at the recent Times Evenings and thanks to the parents who helped. All the times recorded at those sessions are on the board. Please remind your children that during Times Evenings and during Galas, they must not ask the timekeepers for their times. Times are just provisional until they are confirmed by the judges, and by the referee at galas. If a swimmer’s time does not appear on the board, it means that stroke was not swum to ASA technical standards. The times shown are just those swum on the actual evening – they are not necessarily Personal Bests. Each swimmer needs to look in their orange Log Book to check if they have set a new personal record in a stroke. Spare copies of the Log Books are available form the Club desk.

Sunday Training

Some confusion appears to have arisen over Sunday Training, which was mentioned briefly at the Presentation Evening. Club has managed to secure just One Lane for two hours on a Sunday evening. This is to provide space for team swimmers to practise long distance events for the County Championships without encroaching on normal training. Places are extremely limited so priority is given to those County swimmers. Any spare places then go to keen team swimmers who train for at least two hours and attend every week. Such swimmers are welcome to ask about a place. Information about this has gone out several times in the Squad newsletter.

Annual Sprint Gala

The Annual Sprint Gala will be taking place in March.  This is a very popular event, comprising short sprints of 25m and 50m races, and is open to all swimmers.

When choosing which events to enter, remember that the races will be under ASA Rules so you must be confident you can swim the stroke legally. If in doubt, ask your teacher.

There are no qualifying heats or finals; everything is decided on the night.

The events take place on normal training evenings:

·         The 25m races for 10 and unders will take place on Tuesday 18th March, starting at 6pm.

·         The 50m races for 11 and overs will take place on Wednesday 19th March, starting at 6pm.

Full details are given in the Entry Forms.

There will be no normal training sessions on these two evenings.

Entry forms are now at the desk and must be returned by 27th February at the latest.
