Great End to the Season for Norton Radstock

Norton Radstock had a great win against Cirencester, Wells and Cheddar on Saturday to end a very successful season. They scored a massive 153 points, finishing with 16 firsts and 25 seconds out of the 49 races. There were two Club Records and 10 Personal Best times set during the evening. The Club Records went to Holly Sadler in the 50m Breaststroke and Tim Inns in the 50m Freestyle.

The Age Group bands changed for this Gala, which meant it was a very young team with several swimmers making their debuts. Jack Barter, Izzy Binnie-Dawson, Mary Inns and Amy Boalch all made excellent starts for the team, helping their relay teams to first and second places. Next season is looking extremely good for the Club, as the team managed an impressive victory without several experienced swimmers. It was also good for the new Club Captains, Owen Thomas and Terri Dallimore to get off to a winning start.

The 10 and under Boys team of Sam Church, Fergus Bowen, Liam Willcox and Freddie Lenihan won their Medley relay and Freddie, Fergus, Liam and Jack Barter won the Freestyle Relay. Freddie also won the individual Freestyle and Backstroke and Liam won the Butterfly and Breaststroke.  The 10 and Under Girls team of Hannah Brooks-Scully, Mary Inns, Izzy Binnie-Dawson and Alana Walkes won their Freestyle relay and picked up seconds in their other races.

For the 12 and under Boys team, Matthew Whatley won the individual Backstroke and with George Beechener, Seb Craig and help from Freddie Lenihan and Liam Willcox, the team managed seconds in all their other races. There were two individual victories in the 12 and under Girls team for Holly Sadler in the Breaststroke and Alice Bowden in the Backstroke. They also managed seconds in their relays, along with Molly Barter and Maisie Hillier.

The 14 and under Boys were largely unchanged from the incredibly successful 13 and under team from the previous league season. Martin Lenihan, Tim Inns and Ben Bicknell, with help from Matthew Whatley, continued their fine form. Tim won the Freestyle and Butterfly whilst Ben won the Backstroke. They also managed two seconds in the relays. The 14 and under Girls team of Sammie Chivers, Joanna Young, Saskia Mead, Lauren Glover and Amy Boalch consistently achieved second places across all their individual and relay events.

In the Girls ‘Open’ category there were wins for Sarah Britton in the Backstroke and for the Freestyle relay team of Sarah, Terri Dallimore, Melissa Vause and Saskia Mead. The team was also second in the Medley relay. For the Boys, Nick Britton won the Backstroke and there was a victory for the Medley team of Nick and Matt Britton, Tim Inns and Owen Thomas.

The Club would like to thank Phil Blakeman for refereeing, Jo Brooks-Scully for organising the officials and helpers, all parents who gave up their time to help on the evening and to come along and support the Club and the staff of South Wansdyke Sports Centre for their help in setting up the equipment on the night. The next competitive Gala is in September.
