Norton Radstock Win First Winter Series! Norton Radstock needed to beat Burnham on Sea by two points to win the first Winter Series League competition, which they did in style by winning the final gala of the three match series by 17 points. This was due to the tremendous commitment, effort and consistency of every team member in every race. New Club records were set by Karli Sawyer in the Backstroke and Freestyle, Melissa Vause in the Breaststroke and Nick Britton in the Backstroke. Several swimmers remained unbeaten across the three match series. Liam Willcox and Tim Inns were unbeaten in the Butterfly and Backstroke, and Martin Lenihan was unbeaten in the Freestyle. The 11/under Boys Freestyle and Medley relay teams were also unbeaten, the team for the final gala being Liam Willcox, Freddie Lenihan, Fergus Bowen and Ryan Thomas. The 13/under Boys also won all their relays, the final line-up comprising Tim Inns, Martin Lenihan, Matthew Whatley and Robert Young, who was making his debut. There were also fine victories on the night for Mary Inns (Breaststroke), Sarah Britton (Backstroke and Butterfly) and Nick Britton (Individual Medley and Backstroke). There were several relay victories, too, from the 13/under Girls Medley Relay team of Alice Bowden, Virginia Gay, Saskia Mead and Holly Sadler; the 15/under Girls Freestyle Relay team of Alice Bowden, Sarah Britton, Sammie Chivers and Lauren Glover and the Open Boys Freestyle and Medley teams of Jake Atkins, Nick Britton, Matt Dark, James Harvey and Owen Thomas. Norton Radstock also broke the 2-minute barrier in winning the 8-person Freestyle Canon. Team Captains Owen Thomas and Nick Britton collected a Cup and Shield for winning the Series. Burnham on Sea Swimming Club faces an uncertain future as their local Council look to save money by closing their pool. Norton Radstock fully supports their efforts to keep their Club going and is collecting signatures for a petition on their behalf. Anyone wishing to sign can do so at the Sports Centre on Tuesday or Wednesday evenings.
