Win For Norton Radstock In First Round Of Winter Series Norton Radstock hosted the first round of the Winter Series against Burnham, Cheddar and Wincanton at the South Wansdyke Sports Centre on Saturday and won by four points from Burnham in an exciting gala. The team scored 23 first places and 16 second places in the 51 race programme. There were fifteen personal bests set and four club records broken. The records were set by Karli Sawyer (Butterfly and Backstroke), Jake Atkins (Butterfly) and Tim Inns (Butterfly). There were individual wins for Sarah Britton (Medley, Butterfly), Hannah Brooks-Scully (Freestyle), Karli Sawyer (Butterfly, Backstroke), Liam Willcox (Butterfly, Backstroke), Saskia Mead (Freestyle, Butterfly), Martin Lenihan (Freestyle), Tim Inns (Backstroke, Butterfly) and Alice Bowden (Backstroke). There were great team performances in the relays with victories in the Freestyle Relays for the 11/u Boys (Freddie Lenihan, Fergus Bowen, Ryan Thomas, Liam Willcox), the 13/u Boys (Martin Lenihan, Matthew Whatley, Alex Grace and Tim Inns) and the Girls Open (Terri Dallimore, Sarah Britton, Melissa Vause and Karli Sawyer). In the Medley Relays there were wins for the 11/u Girls (Alana Walkes, Mary Inns, Willow Wyatt and Hannah Brooks-Scully), the 11/u Boys (Jack Barter, Fergus Bowen, Liam Willcox and Freddie Lenihan), the 13/u Girls (Virginia Gay, Holly Sadler, Alice Bowden and Saskia Mead), the 13/u Boys (Seb Craig, Martin Lenihan, Tim Inns and Matthew Whatley) and the Girls Open (Sarah Britton, Melissa Vause, Karli Sawyer and Terri Dallimore). There was also a thrilling final race victory in the Mixed Freestyle Cannon. The whole team performed exceptionally well in a closely fought competition with Burnham. The lead changed hands several times during the evening and the result could have gone either way right up until the last couple of races. At times like this, it is very important to have a good team spirit and Norton Radstock’s was excellent with lots of noise coming from the sidelines and from the spectators on the balcony. As always, the Club would like to thank Adam and his team at the Sports Centre, who helped things flow smoothly, and to Pippa Walkes for running the Public Address system. The next round of the Series is at Cheddar on November 10th.
