Our Aims

At Norton Radstock Swimming Club, we aim to provide an opportunity for children who have an interest in taking swimming further. As well developing correct stroke technique, swimmers will practice racing starts and turns. All swimmers are encouraged to develop competitively as individuals in our own club galas and as members of a team in inter-club galas.  Talented swimmers may be offered extra training at additional club training sessions and at the University of Bath.

About Us

Our Club is based at the South Wansdyke Sports Centre in Midsomer Norton. We operate totally independently of the Centre and are run solely by volunteers. The club trains on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings from 6pm to 10pm. The length of a session depends on ability level. Beginners may start on either evening but ALL Improvers Groups are on a Tuesday.

Initially a teacher will carry out an assessment of your child’s current swimming skills so that they can be put in the right group. The activities within that group will become more demanding as swimming ability improves. Progress is assessed regularly both by timing sessions and observation of stroke technique.

At the discretion of the teacher the swimmers move up through the Groups when spaces become available.

The Club is a member of the Cotswold League, where we take part in a number of galas between January and May. We have team managers who select the squad for each match. We also organise a number of friendly galas throughout the year and encourage swimmers to compete in events such as the Somerset County Championships.

The main event each year is our Club Annual Gala, held in November. It is open to swimmers of all ages and abilities, including a ‘Mini Gala’ for the beginners.  Swimmers compete in age groups to win certificates, cups and medals which are awarded at a Presentation Evening with a Disco.

We also hold a Club Sprint Gala in the spring and Distance Swims are held in the summer.  Badges and Certificates are available from the Club.

 Fees

Fees are currently £156 per year and are reviewed each April.  There are small reductions for families with 3 or more children, or where a parent is a regular teacher. The Club is open throughout term time and for some school holidays.  Check the Club Noticeboards for closing times.

Your fee contributes towards the hiring of the pool. Our volunteers teach your child for free.

Interested in Joining?

If you would like to find out more about the Club, email the team manager at Team-Manager@nrsc.info  or pick up a form from the Club desk on one of our training nights.

You will then be contacted to arrange an assessment. These take place at 7pm on a Tuesday.  At the assessment we will either offer you a place in a suitable group or, if one isn’t available, we will advise that you continue separate lessons for your child and re-apply when their strokes have improved.

We do not operate a Waiting List. We do not take non-swimmers.
